Abstract
929,333. Variable-speed epicyclic gear. F. HURTH, and H. HURTH. April 5, 1962 [April 27, 1961], No. 13120/62. Class 80 (2). In a change-speed gear having four epicyclic units providing three speeds in both directions, the elements of the geometrically graded changespeed gear are of the same ratio and diameter as the equivalent elements of the reverse gear. Four epicyclic units 1, 2, 3, 4 have two input sun gears 11, 21 driven from a hydrodynamic clutch or torque convertor and two output runs 31, 41 rigid with an output shaft 40. Brakes 16, 26, 36, 46 which may be fluid pressure or electromagnetically operated, respectively control the first planet carrier and the second, third and fourth ring gears, the latter may be connected by a clutch 50 to the output shaft. The units 1 and 2 provide a reduced forward and reverse drive and units 3 and 4 two increasing speed ratios and direct drive. The gear ratios are in the geometrical progression of 2 and the gears 12, 22, 32 and 42, 10 and 31, 21 and 41, 13 and 33, 23 and 43 are of equal sizes.
