936,586. Change-speed gear. SELF-CHANGING GEARS Ltd. Sept. 29, 1961 [Oct. 17, 1960], No. 35449/60. Class 80 (2). A motor vehicle change-speed epicyclic gear providing three reduced ratios, direct-drive and reverse, comprises three reducing sun-ring trains 6, 9, 15 and a reverse train 21 having the suns 1c 1b of the first arid second trains 6, 9 and the ring 17 of the third train 15 fast with an input shaft 1, the planet carrier 6 of the first train fast with an output shaft 2 and the ring 7 of the first train fast with the planet carriers 9, 15 of the second and third trains so that the first train 6 acts alone for low-ratio when its ring 7 is held by a brake 8, the first and second trains 6, 9 compound for second ratio when the ring 11 of the latter train 9 is held by a brake 12 and the first and third trains 6, 15 compound for third ratio when the sun 13 of the latter is held by a brake 18. For direct drive an hydraulicallyoperated friction clutch 24 connects the sun 13 of the third train 15 to the input shaft 1. Reverse is obtained by holding the ring 22 of the reverse train at 23 which train thus compounds with the first train 6 since its sun 19 is fast with the ring 7 and its planet carrier 21 is fast with the output shaft 2.
