Abstract
843,146. Toothed gearing. NAPIER & SON Ltd., D. Sept. 19, 1958 [Oct. 21, 1957], No. 32831/57. Class 80 (1). In order to provide a rigid construction of planet carrier in a epicyclic gear comprising a driving or driven sun 19, a reaction ring 32 and stepped planets 18, 31, the planets are carried by flanges 26, 22 on the output or input shaft 13, the primary planet gears being overhung outside their bearings 29, 25 to allow the two flanges 26, 22 to be interconnected by a robust tubular portion 30. The shaft 13 is supported by bearings 11, 12 in a casing 10. The gears 18 project through openings in the shaft 13 to engage the sun-gear 19 which is splined at 20 to the input or output shaft 15 and is additionally supported by a bearing 21. The bearings 25, 29 for the three planetary gear sets are mounted in respective lobes 23, 27, Fig. 2; on the flanges 22, 26. The ring gear 32 may be mounted for slight circumferential movement and form part of a torque meter.
