Abstract
941,281. Epicyclic toothed gearing. CURTISS WRIGHT CORPORATION. Dec. 8, 1959 [May 1, 1959], No. 41792/59. Heading. F2Q. A planetary reduction gear, for single or two stage drive of a high-torque power hinge comprising three coaxial fixed members 14, 22, 22 connected together by axial bolts, and two interposed similarly connected rotatable output members 10, 10 connected to a member to be actuated by the hinge, comprises pairs of stepped planets 34 meshing internal teeth 12 in the output members 10 and 24, 16 in the stationary members 14, 22, the latter differing slightly in number from the former, the planets 34 being supported mainly by free rings 42 which roll on tracks between the planet steps. To facilitate assembly free light cages 40 and bearing spindles 44 may or may not be additionally provided for the planets 34. The above output stage is driven by an input stage comprising a sun 64 on a motor-driven input shaft 66, and freelycaged planets having a central step 62 meshing a fixed ring gear 20, and two equal outer steps 60 differing slightly in tooth number from the central step, and meshing internal teeth in ring gears 54 which also have external teeth meshing the planet pinions 34 of the output stage. Between nine and twenty planet pinions 34 may be used.
