Abstract
806,808. Toothed gearing. HINDMARCH, T. July 10, 1956 [July 21, 1955], No. 21162/55. Class 80 (1). In a power transmission in which a driving shaft 1 is geared from a common input pinion to helical pinions 3, 3 on intermediate shafts 4, 4 which are geared by pinions 5, 5 to a common output pinion 6 on a driven shaft 7 axial thrust on the helical pinions 3, 3 splined on the intermediate shaft is balanced by interconnected fluid pressure devices 12, 13 to equalize the loads transmitted through the intermediate shafts. In an alternative arrangement straight spur gears are used which are helically splined to the intermediate shafts and thrust collars on the shafts are acted upon by thrust bearings coupled to a centrallysupported lever.
