Abstract

460,692. Variable speed gearing. KETTEN UND GETRIEBE GES., P. I. V. June 3, 1936, No. 15494. Convention date, June 3, 1935. [Class 80 (ii)] A continuously variable change-speed gear comprises a driving-shaft 2 connected to a planet carrier 45 of a differential gear, the sun wheels 47 and 48 of which drive shafts 51 and 55 respectively in the same direction of rotation. The relative speed of these two shafts is controlled by a continuously variable regulating device in the form of expanding conical pulleys 80, 81 and a belt 82. The speeds of the two shafts 51 and 55 are combined by means of another differential gear, the suns 58, 59 being geared to the shafts 51, 55 and the planet carrier 60<1> being connected to a driven shaft 27. When the speeds of the shafts 51 and 55 are equal the speed of the driven shaft 27 is zero, and by varying the relative speeds of the shafts the speed of the shaft 27 can be varied in both directions of rotation. In a modification spur gearing is employed for the differentials instead of the bevel gearing shown.
