535,515. Differential gearing. IFIELD, R. J. April 6, 1940, No. 6236. Addition to 471,325. [Class 80 (ii)] Consists in modified methods of driving the " additional" or restricting elements of the restricted differential gear described in the parent Specification, in which one-way locking-devices for limiting the differential ratio are disposed adjacent to one another. In one arrangement the restricting-elements D, E, Fig. 2, are on concentric shafts 11, 12, which are disposed within one A of the driven elements. The shafts 11, 12 carry gears 21, 22, which mesh with compound planet-gears 23, 24 carried on the driving element C. The gears 23, 24, which are shown apart from each other in Fig. 2, mesh with gears on the driven elements A, B respectively, and with one another. The method may be applied to bevel-gearing. In another form, one restricting-element E, Fig. 3, has two gears 28, 29 of different sizes, one 28 of which meshes through a planet-gear 31 with internal teeth on the driving-member C, whist the other meshes through a planet-gear 32 with internal teeth on the driven element B. The gear 32 also meshes through another planet-gear 33 with the other restricting- element D. The three planet-gears are carried by the other driven element A. In a third form one restricting-element is formed with a sungear and the other as a planet-carrier having a compound planet-wheel, which meshes with the other restricting-element and also interconnects the driving and both driven members.
