489,399. Prepayment mechanism for meters. WILSON GAS METERS, Ltd., G., and ORMEROD, G. A. March 22, 1937, No. 8343. [Class 27] In coin-freed mechanism for gas or similar meters selectively operable by coins of different values and having a planetary gearing or compounded train of planetary gears between the coin wheels, which are coaxial, and the quantity mechanism, the main axis of the planetary gears being at right-angles to the axis of the coin wheels, the drive is taken from the coin wheels to the different elements of the planetary gears by spaced shafts, the axes of which are parallel to one another and to that of the coin wheels. As shown applied to a " tri-coin " mechanism, the coin wheels 11, 13, 14, Fig. 1, drive respectively spaced parallel shafts 12, 15, 16, the shaft 12 being driven directly from the wheel 11 and the shafts 15, 16 through gear pairs 17, 18 from the wheels 13, 14. A compounded train of two planetary gears 19, 20, Fig. 2, has its main axis at right-angles to the shafts 12, 15, 16. The coaxial sun wheels of the gear 19 are driven through worm gearing 26, 28 by the shafts 12, 15 respectively, its planet carrier 21 being connected by a sleeve 22 to one sun wheel of the gear 20. The other sun wheel of this gear is driven through worm gearing 30 by the shaft 16, and its planet carrier 23 drives the quantity mechanism 24 by the sleeve 25.
