Abstract

347,794. Prepayment mechanism for meters. BUTHERUS, F. R. and BRITISH SANGAMO CO., Ltd., Cambridge Arterial Road, Enfield, Middlesex. Feb. 18, 1930, No. 5414. [Class 27.] For the purpose of collecting a standing charge . in a prepayment meter having setting mechanism comprising a rotatory screw and nut, one being rotated by the prepayment and the other by the meter mechanism, the setting mechanism is operated on a time basis in the same direction as it is operated by the meter by means connected through a differential gear between the setting and the prepayment mechanisms. The invention is described as applied to the setting mechanism of an electricity meter described in Specification 346,283. The prepayment mechanism actuates the screw and nut setting mechanism 44, 45 through a wheel 20 on a sleeve 85 carrying one sun-wheel 87 of a differential mechanism, the sun-wheel gearing with a planet-wheel 88 to rotate a shaft 86 which passes through' the sleeve 85 and is connected to the setting mechanism through wheels 22, 23, 24. The other sun-wheel 89 is mounted on a second sleeve on the shaft 86 and is driven through gear wheels 91, 92 by a constant speed motor 93 to actuate the planetwheel and shaft 86 in the same direction as they are rotated by the prepayment mechanism.
