Counting-apparatus.-A prepayment meter is provided with means for producing an auxiliary turning movement, independent of the load, corresponding to the rental fee. The auxiliary turning moment may be produced by a voltageoperated motor, for example an electromagnet 12 excited by a pressure winding 13 and having a short-circuited ring 15 on one side of the pole piece, so as to exert a torque on the disc 1, which is also acted on by the driving system of the meter (not shown). Alternatively in a Ferrari's meter the additional turning moment may be produced by symmetry of the voltage driving-field. The moment is preferably adjustable, for example by swinging the arm 14 about the pivot 16. The motion of the armature disc 1 is transmitted to the sun-wheel 5 of the differential gear D, the other sun-wheel 6 of which is set forward by a knob 11. The spindle carrying the planet wheel 7 rotates, through gearing 8, 9, the prepayment mechanism 10 which cuts off the current when in a particular position.
