Abstract
406,835. Speedometers; odometers. SMITH, A. G., Cricklewood Works, Edgware Road, Cricklewood, London, and WATSON, E. A., Zinal, Stoneleigh Road, Gibbet Hill, Coventry. Dec. 1, 1932, No. 33998. [Class 106 (iii).] In apparatus in which a permanent magnet generator adapted to supply current to a voltmeter forming a vehicle speed indicator is associated with an interrupter which actuates electromagnetic counting mechanism, epicyclic reduction gear for the interrupter is combined with the rotor. The spindle c, driven preferably from the vehicle transmission, carries the permanent magnet b between two plates p. The stationary magnetic field system comprises poles d carrying a winding e connected to the voltmeter indicator. The rotor also carries planet pinions f gearing with a fixed sun wheel g and with a sun wheel h of slightly different diameter freely mounted on the end of the spindle C, this mechanism forming a reduction gear by means of which a cam i operates a spring controlled interrupter lever j having contacts in a circuit which may be supplied from a battery, the circuit containing a counting device electromagnetically operated.
