Abstract
404,464. Coin-freed apparatus for delivering electricity, gas, &c. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Jan. 25, 1933, No. 2435. Convention date, Jan. 25, 1932. [Class 27.] Time-controlled apparatus.-In prepayment devices wherein the quantity of commodity supplied e.g. electricity, gas, or water, is controlled solely by a time actuated mechanism governed by the insertion of coins, the time actuated mechanism with its reduction gear drive is constructed as an independent unit adapted to be coupled to a second unit comprising the coin and quantity mechanism, the arrangement being such that either unit may be removed for repairs &c. without disturbing the other. The time mechanism comprises a small self-starting synchronous motor 2 having an excitation winding 3 and a stator embracing a reduction gear the driving shaft of which is shown at 5, the motor and reduction gear being an independent unit mounted on a base-plate 1. The second unit comprises a coin and quantity mechanism 6, the delivery or quantity mechanism of which is coupled to the drive 5 through transmission wheels 7, 8. The wheel 7 has pins 70 meshing with the teeth of wheel 8, and the position and number of these pins may be adjusted to various charging rates. When the pins are being changed, the wheel 8 is held by a yieldingly controlled roller. The current to the motor 2 may be cut off at the same time as the supply of commodity, or the motor may move the quantity mechanism to a limiting position beyond its zero position. For this purpose, the quantity mechanism may have a control member which in the limiting position opens a switch in the excitation winding 3, or a friction clutch may be interposed in the transmission gear, one part of which is locked by a control member operated by the quantity mechanism in the limiting position.
