375,971. Rotary transmission dynamometers. POWELL, A. D., 31, Clare Road, and BRADBURY & SONS, Ltd., J., New Street Works, both in Braintree, Essex. June 6, 1931, No. 16559. [Class 106 (ii).] Relates to machines for testing vehicle brakes of the type in which the brake resistance is registered by a dynamometer incorporating a movable element in the means for driving the wheel under test and consists in providing a linkage gear allowing variations in leverage ratio between the moving element of the dynamometer and its indicating means. A planet carrier drives through a sun wheel a shaft on which is the roller driving the vehicle wheel under test and also drives a second sun wheel attached to a moving member F which is connected to a pendulum H by a rod I. The leverage may be changed by inserting the pivot pin J in any of the holes F1, F2, F3. In another form the member F is connected by a link to a lever which at one end pivots about a fixed point, the other end being connected to a spring balance. In a further form, Fig. 5, the drive is from a motor through worm gear to a wheel M which gears with a compound planet pinion N'gearing with a wheel O on the shaft of the roller C. The member F is formed on the planet carrier and is connected at any of three points by a link to a spring balance K.
