Abstract
407,157. Prepayment mechanism for meters. CHAMBERLAIN & HOOKAM, Ltd., and JAMES, S., 4, New Bartholomew Street, Birmingham. Dec. 20, 1932, No. 36073. [Class 27.] In a two-part tariff prepayment meter, the meter mechanism, the coin-actuated mechanism, an extra motor or other mechanism co-related with basic charges, and valve or switch controlling mechanism are interconnected by a pair of epicyclic mechanisms the sun-wheels a, band c, d of which are arranged coaxially. The planet pinion e engaging the wheels a, b rotates on a spindle g radially secured to an arbor i by a boss h, this arbor having at one end a lever j for actuating a switch mechanism, and at the other an index pointer k. The wheel a is loose on the arbor and is driven by the meter through a pinion l, the wheel b being carried by a sleeve m freely mounted on the arbor. The sun-wheels c, d are freely mounted on the sleeve m, being rotated respectively from the extra motor or other device and from the coin-actuated mechanism through pinions p, q. The planet pinion f which meshes with the wheels c, d is mounted on a radial spindle o secured to the sleeve m by a boss n. The meter and extra motor drives may be interchanged, the meter driving the wheel c and the motor the wheel a. The mechanism may be used in meters in which the movement correlated with the basic charge is effected as described in Specification 346,538.
