Abstract
353,562. Supply meters. ARON ELECTRICITY METER, Ltd. and HILL, E. W., 80, Salusbury Road, Kilburn, London. May 8, 1930, No. 14192. [Class 37.] The invention relates to maximum demand indicators of the type wherein the indicating-pointer driving member is driven by an electric mechanism which is periodically energized by means controlled from an associated registering meter, the said driving member being automatically disconnected at intervals from its driving means and returned to zero, and consists in forming the electric mechanism as an A.C. magnet having a pivoted armature engaging a toothed wheel, the armature being mechanically disconnected from the wheel when the magnet is energized. A toothed wheel 71<A> is secured to the rotating spindle of an integrating meter the maximum rate of registration of which is to be indicated. As the wheel 71 rotates spring contacts 73, 75 are momentarily closed to shortcircuit an A.C. magnet 13 an armature 17 of which then rocks under the action of a spring 19. An extension 23 of the armature comes into the path of a weighted rod secured to a shaft 33 carrying a two-armed lever 31 having pins 35 engaging a star wheel 37, the lever 31 being rocked to cause the lower pin 35 to move the star wheel forward. The re-energization of the magnet 13 causes the extension 23 to move away from the rod 39 whereupon a weight 41 rocks the upper pin into engagement with the star wheel. The motion of the star wheel is transmitted to a pinion 43 gearing with a wheel 51 which carries a rod 5 bearing a short pointer 7. The rod 5 engages a pointer 3 frictionally mounted on an annulus 9 and settable to zero by hand. The spindle of the pinion 43 is carried by an arm 45 which is rocked by predetermined intervals (e.g. every 30 minutes) by the contacting of a pin 69 with a tail 71, whereupon the wheel 51 and rod 5 are returned to their zero position by a spring 53. The pin 69 is secured to a disc 67 driven through gearing from a constantspeed shaded pole electric motor.
