Abstract

1,160,047. Mowers. E. L. CALDWELL & SONS Inc. 9 May, 1968, No. 22097/68. Heading A1F. A mower has a central section 10 and side sections 12, 13 pivotally mounted at the longitudinal sides of the central section 10 so that the side sections can be pivoted upwards by 90 degrees to a transport position by cylinder-piston units 42, 43 each having its one end pinned at 44 to the section 10 and the other end to section 12 or 13. The section 10, along with sections 12 and 13, supported at the rear on height-adjustable wheels 19 and 25, is pulled behind a tractor by the draft tongue 32 and the height of its front end is adjustable by cylinder-piston assemblies 40 connected between the section 10 and the draft tongue 32. The cutting blades 50, 60, 61 are driven by the tractor power take-off shaft 55, universal joint 54, telescopic shaft 53, gear box 49, universal joints 64, telescopic shafts 62, 63, universal joints 65 and gear boxes 58, 59. During operation the side members can float resiliently, to follow the irregularities of the ground.
