Abstract

948,361. Root crop harvesters. P. J. PACKMAN. April 9, 1962 [Feb. 6, 1961], No. 4393/61. Heading A1F. A machine for lifting root crops comprises a share 6 with sides 7 arranged to lift a ridge of earth and crop and a divider 9 which deflects the ridge on to two transversely spaced saucer-shaped riddles 15 whose receiving surfaces are arranged to travel rearwardly at a speed greater than the forward speed of the machine to move the riddled crop on to a further conveyer 18 consisting of a number of overlapping star-shaped rubber wheels 19. The riddles are driven from the power take-off 20 of a tractor through a gear box 24 and the conveyer 18 is driven through a separate gear box 41. The machine is supported on rear wheels and has a tow-bar connection for a tractor. A further conveyer may be fitted to carry the crops directly to a hopper. Specification 584,502 is referred to.
