Abstract

772,194. Reaping machines. MOUSSALLI, E. Oct. 27, 1955 [Nov. 1, 1954], No. 31469/54. Class 6(3). A reaping machine for cutting through the stalks of a standing crop comprises a drum 17 provided with a plurality of blades 22 projecting from the periphery thereof and extending lengthwise of the drum, the drum being mounted at the front of a tractor and driven from the power take-off shaft 5 of the tractor through chain and sprocket gearing 19. The drum is mounted in a frame 8 provided with land wheels 12 and a wire mesh hood 31 is provided. As shown in Fig. 3 the blades 22 are provided with hardened cutting edges 26 and are bolted to bars 27 rivetted to the drum. When used for cutting grain stalks the cutting portions of the blades are made thinner as indicated in dotted lines in Fig 3. It is stated in the Provisional Specification that a manually operable rake may be provided at the rear of the vehicle.
