Abstract
690,313. Harvesting root-crops. PEDERSEN, H. C. July 25, 1951 [May 1, 1951], No. 17578/51. Class.6(iii) A potato-harvester comprises a main frame a supported on forward skids c and rear wheels b and carrying lifting tools e and a rotating drum composed of rings j and k with bars l, m, n projecting from their circumferences. The drum is mounted on an axle g by means of a rear spider i, h, and is rotated by either the land wheels, a tractor take-off, or a motor (not shown). The lower, rear part of the drum is closed by a segmental plate s, and curved bars z secured to the lifting-tool stem d partially close the forward side of the drum to prevent forward ejection of the roots. The roots fall rearwardly on to a grating w pivoted so as to deflect the roots either to the right or left of the line of travel. Further gratings x and y limit the spread of the discharged roots. The bars l, m, n project in chevron-fashion from the rails j, k the bars being inclined both forwardly and outwardly. The stems of the tools e and the skids c are secured by common clamps to the frame a so as to be simultaneously adjustable.
