Abstract

754,400. Sifting and separating apparatus. CHRISTENSEN, P. Aug. 18, 1954 [April 28, 1954], No. 23988/54. Class 117. [Also in Group I] Sifting and separating means for a root-crop harvester (see Group I) comprise a series of driven parallel shafts 10 carrying rotary cleaning members 11 mounted in staggered interleaving relation. The cleaning members may comprise brushes or may consist of bars or discs of various shapes covered with rubber. A part of each rod or disc may be pivoted to the remainder so as to yield to stones. A gearbox 12, driven from the towing tractor, drives the shafts 10 through a belt-drive 20. A shield covers the cleaning members and a perforated pipe 18 directs an air-blast behind the rearmost members to remove loose leaves and haulms, the cleaned crop being delivered to the elevator 17.
