Abstract
711,984. Root-crop harvesters. BETTINSON, P. B. Nov. 19, 1952 [Jan. 7, 1952, No. 485/52. Class 6 (3). [Also in Group II] A root-crop harvester comprises a share 3 followed by an elevator 9 which carries excavated material upwardly to fall through a shoot 14 into a penumatic separator (see also Group II) comprising a casing 36 having adjustable internal baffles 37, 38, 39 arranged in echelon. An airblast from a fan 34 carries the potatoes across a gap into an adjacent casing 42 whilst dust is blown away through a discharge conduit 43 and stones fall through the gap into a hopper 55 for discharge on to the ground. The share 3 is mounted between two wheels 4 which are individually adjustable by screws 8 on side plates 7 of the machine. The conveyer 9 runs in a trough 12 which is adjustable pivotally about the axle 19 of the upper sprocket by a hydraulic ram 21. The machine is self-propelled by the engine of a tractor 2 which also drives the elevator 9 and a co-operating conveyer 15 mounted above its lower part. The fan 34 is driven by a separate motor 35. The potatoes, after passing into the casing 42, roll over grids 46, 47 and on to a transverse elevator 52 which discharges them into a vehicle alongside.
