Abstract
737,313. Potato harvesters. THOMPSON, H. C. Dec. 1, 1952 [Nov. 29, 1951], No 28020/51. Class 6 (3). A potato-harvesting machine comprises a rotary drum 8 rotatably mounted on a wheeled frame 1 and provided with spiral vanes that feed the crop to a conveyer 27 provided with a guide 28 which discharges the potatoes to an elevator 29 provided with a grid 30 which separates any stones or earth from the potatoes. A rotary cutter 26a is arranged on the towing tractor or on the machine, to cut off the potato tops and remove part of the furrow. A pair of discs 26 are provided to cut away the sides of the furrow. The crop is lifted into the drum by two shares 22 provided with slots and at the rear with tines. The drum 8 and conveyer 27 and elevator 29 are driven by chain and sprocket gearing from an internal-combus. tion engine 16. In a modification the endless conveyer may be dispensed with and the elevator continued out horizontally to form a conveyer.
