A device for digging bulbs or root-crops comprises, in combination, a lifting share A having a lateral discharge on to a disc B rotatable about an inclined axis whereby it conveys excavated material upwardly to a vibrating sieve C which sifts the crop from the soil. The members A, B, C are mounted on a frame 1 supported on lateral wheels 32, 37 which are separately adjustable vertically, in order, respectively, to incline the sieve C rearwardly and downwardly at a suitable angle for discharge, and to set the share A at the correct depth for digging. The frame is towed by a tractor, from the power take-off of which a drive is taken, through a shaft 14, to a gearbox 13. The gearbox drives the disc B, through a chain 11 and tube 5 and drives the sieve C, through a belt 23, crank 25, pitman 26, rocker 27 and swinging parallel links 29, 31. The sieve comprises parallel bars 18 mounted in yokes 20 so as to have an adjustable spacing. A rubbercovered roller 44 rolls on the disc to smooth out the excavated material, and is driven by bevel gears from the tube 5. An impeller having blades 43 is mounted on the lower end of the shaft 12, to deflect the material from the disc to the sieve. The propelling tractor may carry a pivoted lateral frame in which is rotatably mounted a rotary skimming tool which removes the top-soil in advance of the share A, Fig. 4 (not shown), the tool being driven from the lateral power take-off.
