Abstract

550,276. Potato harvesters. OPPERMANN O.R. Sept. 26, 1941, No. 12475. [Class 6 (iii)] A potato-harvesting machine comprises a wheeled frame 1 a revolving beater 6 to remove soil from the ridge tops, oppositely revolving cutters 15, 16 to cut off the haulms, a combined share and scoop 21 to lift the potatoes and remaining earth of the ridges, a revolving sieve 25 behind the shares, and an elevator for conveying the potatoes to the receptacle 32. Rack and pinion mechanism allows the height of the beater and cutters to be adjusted; a sub-share 241 clears away earth from the sieve. A comb is fixed to the rear of the sieve with teeth penetrating between those 29 upstanding from the wire-mesh conveyor. Hand-picking of dirt and stones takes place from operator's seats on each side of the horizontal part of the conveyor. The drive for the moving members is taken from the main ground wheels 2.
