Abstract
686,545. Agricultural implements. DEWEY, E. B. Aug. 18, 1949 [Sept. 29, 1948], No. 21521/49. Classes 6(i) and 6(iii) A machine for planting seed on unploughed land comprises two rotary tillers 33 for pulverizing two strips of soil, furrow opening discs 17, a furrow widening and compressing wheel 19, a seed hopper 24 which feeds seed to distributers 25 and furrow closing discs 26, 27. Reciprocating mowers 40 are provided to mow the ground between the seed rows to provide a mulch and V-shaped hoeing blades 55 are provided to cut the vegetation between the seed rows. Discs 60 precede the rotary tillers which are provided with a hood 35. Fertilizer distributers 63, 22 feed fertilizer through tubes 64, 23 in front of the rotary tillers 33 and the wheels 19 respectively. The seed sowing means are mounted on frames 3 which are suspended on each side of the tractor from transverse beams 1, 2 by means of parallel links 4, 5. The frames 3 are raised by means of handscrews 12, The hoeing blades 55 are mounted on uprights 56 which are pivoted on links 58 mounted on a transverse beam 41 and are raised by means of a rod 59 connected to a lifting lever on the tractor. The mowers 40 and tillers 35 are driven from the tractor power take-off shaft D through bevel gearing and the seed sowing means are driven from the wheels 19. In a modification the mowers 40, discs 60, hoe blades 55 and tillers 33 are mounted between the front and rear wheels at the tractor and the seed sowing means are mounted at the rear of the tractor and connected by links to hydraulic lifting levers on the tractor. In a further modification the implements are mounted on a frame towed behind the tractor and provided with hand adjusted land wheels, the mowers and rotary tillers are driven from a rearward extension of the tractor power take-off shaft and the seed sowing means are adjustable in the frame to vary the spacing of the seed rows.
