1331972 Root crop harvester H VISSERS NV 30 Nov 1970 [3 Dec 1969 29 Oct 1970] 56790/70 Heading A1F A root crop harvesting machine is provided with at least two harvesting shares which converge rearwardly and which are mounted on a frame about an inclined axis lying in a fore-and-aft vertical plane in such a way that the shares may swing sideways to harvest a beet standing outside the row and are returned automatically by a castor action. In one embodiment (Figs. 7 and 8), the harvesting machine comprises a frame 102 mounted on links 133 of a vehicle 112 travelling in direction 114, and pairs 107 of integral, rearwardly converging shares 97 which are pivotable about axes 109. Above the shares 97 are a number of wheels 104 (driven via gearing 116, 120 and the vehicle p.t.o.) which each have tines 128 of resilient steel cable to engage the beet and convey them to conveyor wheels 130 which rotate in directions 129. Wheels 130 and tired wheels 113 above them (similar to those above shares 97) are driven so that beet are conveyed to a central belt 98 leading to storage. The cables 122 of wheels 113 may form a helical array to assist this effect. Three other embodiments are described, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown) show a mounted harvester without conveying apparatus and having shares as described above. Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) show a trailed harvester with similar shares but with resilient scoop members (78) which carry the beet to a conveyer belt, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown) show a harvester having blades 29 which are attached to rods which are reciprocated by a crankshaft in a housing attached by a ball-joint to a tractor.
