Abstract

1460371 Soil cultivating implement C VAN DER LELY NV 11 Jan 1974 [16 Jan 1973 30 Jan 1973] 01517/74 Heading A1B A harrow comprises a transverse row of soil working members 3, each rotating about a substantially vertical axis with neighbouring members rotating in opposite senses B. Each soil working member 3 includes a transverse support 15 to which, by means of bolts 13 with integral tines 18, is detachably connected to a tool support 11 and welded, or otherwise rigidly secured to the tool support 11 is a curved strip tool 16, having a blade 17 with a cutting edge. The free end of the tool 16 is also formed as a cutting edge. A ground roller 23 (Fig. 2) acts as a soil compressor and as a support for the harrow and its height, adjustable by means 21, 22, 24, determines the depth of penetration of the tool 16. The harrow (Fig. 1) has a triangular coupling member 29, with means 31, 32 at its apex for hitching it to the three-point lifting gear of a tractor, and for adjusting the harrow's angle of tilt. The tines 18 ensure intensive crumbling of the top soil. The transverse support 15 may be removed and longer tines put into the sleeve-like holders 14 so that the harrow can produce a seed-bed with a fine tilth. The soil working members 3 are driven from the tractor via a telescopic transmission shaft 28, input shaft 27, change-speed gear 26 and gear-box 25 into which the shaft 2 of one of the central pair of members 3 upwardly extends. Drive is transmitted from this one member 3 to the others by the pinion 10, carried on each shaft 2, being in mesh with the pinions of the other members (Fig. 1).
