Abstract

1320675 Cultivating machine; mowers ROTARY HOES Ltd 14 Jan 1972 [15 Jan 1971] 2007/71 Headings A1B and A1F A rotary cultivator comprises a frame 10, vertically adjustable relative to the ground, carrying a driven shaft 15 with disc-like support members 25, 26 axially spaced along it, carrying blades 32 between them and each with cultivating tools 30 attached around its circumference. Tools 30 are flat L-shaped strips one limb being attached to a support member 25, 26 and the other facing the nearer end of shaft 15, its tip being radially beyond blades 32, the ends of which are fixed in brackets 31 attached to members 25, 26. Tines 41 with forwardly facing tips 45 are vertically adjustably fixed to tool bar 40 on frame 10 and are situated outside members 25, 26. A further disc-like supporting member is fitted on shaft 15 forward of each tine 41 and carries L-shaped cultivating tools 39 which face alternately towards and away from the nearer end of shaft 15, and revolve with their lowest points above tine tip 45. The cultivator is intended for use with a crop such as sugar cane, grown on ridges of ground 20 bounded by parallel channels 22. Blades 32 cut the stubble on the ridge whilst tines 41 clear channels 22 and tools 30, 39 form the soil broken down from the sides and bottom of the channels into a tilth, tools 30 also trimming the edges of the ridge. Different ridge widths are accommodated by loosening blades 32 in brackets 31, and bolts 28 that secure member 25 to shaft 15, and then sliding member 25 along the shaft to the required distance from member 26.
