Abstract

1460372 Soil cultivating implements C VAN DER LELY NV 11 Jan 1974 [16 Jan 1973 30 Jan 1973] 49911/75 Divided out of 1460371 Heading A1B A harrow comprises a transverse row of rotary soil working members each rotating about a substantially vertical axis, with neighbouring members rotating in opposite senses B. The shaft 2 of each rotary member 3 (Fig. 3) is rotatably journalled in ball-bearings 4, 8 housed in the harrow's frame 1, and carries a pinion 10 which meshes with the pinion of a neighbouring member 3. A support 11, for a single 5 cm. wide curved strip tool 16, is connected indirectly to shaft 2 via strip 12 and transverse support 15. There are cutting edges on blade 17, fastened to tool 16, and on the free end of tool 16. The tools 16 of neighbouring rotary members 3 are angularly offset by 180‹ about their axis of rotation (Fig. 1) to prevent fouling each other. A ground roller 23 (Fig. 2) acts as a soil compressor and as a harrow support, and its height, adjustable by means 21, 22, 24 determines the depth of penetration of the tool 16. The rotary members 3 are driven from the tractor via a telescopic transmission shaft 28, input shaft 27, change-speed gear 26 and gearbox 25 into which the central pair of rotary members upwardly extends. A triangular coupling member 29 has means 31, 32 at its apex for hitching to the tractor and for adjusting the harrow's angle of tilt. The rotary member 3 may include short tines integrally formed with bolt-heads 13 or may comprise a support 34 and tool 38 and having alternative means for interconnecting the support 34 and shaft 2, wherein a bridge portion 36, or sleeve portion [44] is bolted to a splined portion of shaft 2. The support 34 may, instead, have a square cross-sectioned upward extension for insertion into a bore of matching cross-section in drive shaft [52], to be held by a fastening nut at its top. Thus the support may be detached and replaced by an alternative, e.g. tined rotary member. The tool may be welded to the support, or formed from a single piece of metal, and the support may also bear a perpendicular projection, located higher than the tool, for ensuring enhanced soil aeration.
