Abstract

682,125. Rotary cultivators. KELSEY, C. W., and DONE, G. W. Dec. 4, 1950, No. 29606/50. Class 6(i) [Also in Group XXXI] A motor-driven, walk-type, rotary-cultivator comprises a longitudinal driving .shaft 11 enclosed in an oil-tight casing 10 and driven by the motor 41 through a belt and pulley system 40, the front end of the shaft being arranged to drive the landwheels 20 through a worm and wormwheel 16, 17, and the rear end being provided with a worm and worm-wheel drive 26, 27 to the transverse tiller shaft 28, the worm 26 being splined on the shaft 11 an( mounted between resilient buffers 32, 33 so that shocks received by the tilling tool 31 will not be transmitted back to the motor. The motor is mounted on a table 55 hinged by brackets 43 to a shaft 44 car ried by the axle housing 22. The table can be tilted about the shaft 44, to slacken the belt drive 42, by means of a toggle linkage Fig. 6 (not shown), operable by a contro rod 45 on the steering handles 46. The buffers 32, 33, may be either rubber-like cushions or coiled-springs. The tiller i surrounded by a screen 50 and terminate in a tail-member 51 provided with a shar 52 to plough in between the sets of rotary tools.
