Abstract

632,485. Grinding and polishing. WOLF & CO., Ltd., S., and GUBBINS, C. H. Dec. 23, 1947, No. 33984. [Class 60] [Also in Group XXII] A portable power-operated hand tool for grinding and sanding or polishing comprises a tool-carrying shaft 7 driven through gearwheels 14, 5 by a shaft 3, at least one of the gears 14, 15 being connected to its shaft through a bush 12 of rubber or like resilient material. The shaft 3 is the rotor of an electric motor 2, and, in the arrangement shown, has the gear 15 splined thereon for co-operation with the gear 14 mounted on a sleeve 13 on the end of the tool shaft 7. A sleeve 11 is splined on the shaft 7 and the bush 12 interposed between the sleeves 11, 13. A washer 16 is provided on the shaft 7 at each end of the bush 12 to restrain the bush against longitudinal displacement. The bush 12 may be bonded to the sleeves 11, 13. The motor 3 is enclosed in a main housing 1 provided with a hand grip 1b and the shaft 7 is disposed in an extension housing adapted also to be gripped by the hand.
