[Glass 60] [Also in Groups XXII and XXIV] A portable power-operated machine for such operations as reaming and grinding, has the power drive transmitted through a friction clutch that is only operative as long as the resistance to turning of a hand crank on the driving-shaft is sufficient to cause compression of a spring to engage .the clutch. , The machine comprises a tool spindle 5 shown as driving a taper reamer 7 through a limited universal joint 6 and bevel geared to a shaft 10 carrying one member 12 of a friction clutch ; the other member 15 being loose on the shaft and driven through belts 16, 19 and countershaft 17 from a motor 21 housed on the base of a portable stand 1 supported on wheels 2. The clutch is closed against the pressure of a spring 22 by turning a hand crank 24 also loose on the shaft 10 but having a cam surface 25 engaging, a cross-pin 26.
