Abstract
275,504. Fletcher, R. W. J. March 1, 1927. Driving machines.-A holder adapted for driving tools such as drills, bits, rotary cutters, grinding and polishing wheels, &c., comprises a shaft 1 driven from a flexible shaft and carrying a clutch element 2 which is centred by the extension 3 in a driven clutch element 4 connected to the tool chuck 7 and mounted in ball-bearings 8. A spring 9 acting through a ball 11 normally tends to press the driving shaft upwards to disengage the clutch. A block 6 moving with the shaft 1 is engaged by the arm 14 of a pivoted lever 12 which has a spring extension carrying a brake shoe 16. When the operator holds the lever 12 against the body of the holder, as shown, the clutch parts are forced into engagement against the spring pressure and the block 16 is raised, while when the lever is released the clutch is automatically disengaged and the brake applied.
