Boots and shoes, cleaning and polishing; floors, cleaning. - A machine for polishing shoes, floors, &c. consists of a shell 1 within which is an electric motor 2 driving a fan 3. Rotatable on an anti-friction, ring 15 on the shell is a holder 4, which is driven from the motor shaft through friction reduction gearing 7, 9, 13, 14, the wheels 7, 13 consisting of double conical wheels pressed apart axially by springs and engaging grooves in the wheel 9 and the holder 4; the shaft 10 of the wheel 9 is supported by an arm 11 secured to a bracket 12 on tha shell 1. The holder 4 has secured thereon, by two split rings 5<1>, 5<11>, a cushion comprising cloth, flexible skin, &c. 5, which is inflated continuously by the fan and performs the polishing; a plate 3<1> prevents wear of parts when the machine is at rest with the part 5 deflated. Handles 16 may be provided, and the machine may be secured to a table by a stirrup and screws engaging one of the handles, so that work may be applied by hand to the tool. For treating floors, a stem may be secured to the machine, and for polishing shoes, a tool, Fig. 6, having bristles 21, and a chamois leather part 22 is employed; the tools may be lined with rubber 23 to prevent too rapid leakage of air. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a construction in which the cushion contains a member permanently inflated through a valve, no fan being used. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
