Abstract

189,576. Pooley, F., Austin, F. C., and Wreford, W. L. Sept. 14, 1921. Disc, wheel, and roller apparatus.-A portable electrically-driven tool comprises a motor, a flexible shaft, and a tool-holding handle. The motor is enclosed in an egg-shaped casing 1, and is suspended from the operator's shoulder by means of a strap 21 and brackets 22. The flexible shaft is provided at each end with a squared rod, one of which engages a sleeve pinned to the motor shaft and rotatable in the casing 8, while the other engages a shaft 19 which rotates in a handle 14 and is adapted to receive the tool. The handle is fitted with a ball-thrust bearing, and a flange 20 for protecting the operator's hand. The sheathing 4 for the flexible shaft is provided at each end with a collar which is secured by nuts 9, 17. The shaft 19 may carry an emery wheel or a polishing or buffing brush or mop. The motor may have a governor as well as, or without, an automatic cut-out, and a switch may be incorporated in the handle.
