Abstract

538,315. Portable grinding tools. ARO EQUIPMENT CORPORATION. Jan. 27, 1940, No. 1698. Convention date, Jan. 23, 1939. [Class 60] [Also in Groups XXII, XXVI and XXXV] A motor drive for a number of adjustable tool attachments is arranged so that some tools are driven directly by the motor shaft whilst others are driven from a sleeve rotating at a reduced speed. The shaft 12 of an electric motor has its end formed as a long pinion 31. A sleeve 23 running in ball-bearings in the casing has a transverse driving slot 25 and a threaded part 24 for receiving tool attachments and is provided with planet pinions 29 meshing with the pinion 31 and with a fixed internal wheel 30. Tools requiring a rapid drive have a spindle 46, Fig. 9, formed internally for clutch engagement with the pinion 31. A drill chuck 32 runs into and is driven by the threads 24; a spanner attachment has a right-angled drum at 42 and has a split casing clamping at 38 on a part 19 of the casing, a cross pin 40 engaging the slot 25 for the drive. A grinding attachment screws on the external wheel 21; on the casing and has the wheel spindle formed as at 46, Fig. 9, for direct drive.
