Abstract

768,148. Drilling. PARKER, W. D., and PULLAN, A. Sept. 23, 1955 [June 24, 1954], No. 18501/54. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXIII] A universal wood-working machine comprises a box c having four or more sides formed by work-tables c1-c4, and the box is indexible in bearing-supports b<SP>1</SP>, b<SP>2</SP> so that the tool associated with each work-table can be brought into position for use. A shaft driven by a motor d or a belt is connected by bevel-gearing to a pair of lateral shafts, one of which, f, can be coupled through a dog-clutch to a pulley f<SP>2</SP> which, through a belt f<SP>3</SP>, drives a spindle f<SP>5</SP> on which are mounted a saw j and a power take-off point for a coupling, chuck or flexibleshaft connected to a drilling, sanding, routing or other machine. A knob k<SP>4</SP> connected to an eccentric finger operates the clutch. For holding the box c in indexed position, a set-screw in the bossof the support b<SP>2</SP> engages one of four holes in an extension of the box.
