564,641. Severing. COMMUNICATIONS PATENTS, Ltd., and DUMBRILL, H. W. Feb. 2, 1943, No. 1684. [Class 60] A cutting-off machine comprises a pedestal built up of sheet metal side walls 4 ... 6 with metal strips 9 at the bottom of two sides having end securing-lugs 8, the upper portion of the pedestal being braced by bars 10, on two of which are mounted V-grooved runways 11, with which co-operate V-grooved members 12 on a sliding table 13, balls 14 being provided in the grooves. A bracing plate 15 extends from the wall 6 upwardly to the opposite wall 4, and plates 16, 17 extend between the plate 15 and the walls ; the parts may be united by welding. On the pedestal is a stationary table 18 with one edge adjacent a side edge of the table 13 and cut away to accommodate a thin abrasive wheel 19, the table being pivoted at 20 so as to be movable to allow access to the mounting for the wheel 19. The wheel 19 is carried by a shaft 21 running in bearings 22 secured to the bars 10, and is driven by belts 24 from an electric motor 26; a dust-collecting casing 28 and conduit 29 is provided for the wheel 19 and a pump, which may be separate or mounted in the pedestal, is provided to remove the dust. The wheel 19 may be adjustable vertically about the axis of the motor 26 and a shield 30 for the wheel is provided, adjustably carried by an arm 31. The work is held on the table 13 and moved past the wheel 19 ; a clamp bar 32 with a clamp 33 for the work or to hold gauging or template means may be provided on the table 13, and a similar clamp may be provided on the table 18.
