729,908. Sawing. COUSENS, H. R. Dec. 29, 1953 [Jan. 2, 1953], No. 36096/53. Class 145. A circular saw 23 and its electric motor 26 are slidable along an arm 27 vertically adjustable on a pillar 25 which is rotatably mounted on a table member 22 and the table member 22 is rotatable about a horizontal axis in bearing brackets 14 carried by a support frame 10 so that the saw can be positioned to operate from above or below the work. The pillar 25 can be locked in its angularly-adjusted position, the principal angles being positively located, and the arm 27 is vertically adjusted on the pillar by a handwheel 28, gearbox 29 and screw 30. In the position shown in Fig. 4, the table member 22 is counterbalanced by springs 40 and may be locked in position. The saw is driven through belts from the motor and saw guards 37 and 38 are provided. For over-cutting, removable table members 17 are placed across side frame members 13 and, for under-cutting, to give additional table width, they are placed on brackets hinged to the support frame. A ripping fence 43 is rotatably mounted in brackets 46. For transporting the machine, retractable wheels 18 and pull-out handles 21 are provided. It is stated that the machine may be used for mitreing, trenching and bevelling and as a spindle moulder, router, disc sander or tool grinder.
