Abstract
1,233,013. Sawing and mitering. EUGEN LUTZ K.G. 28 Nov., 1968 [3 Jan., 1968; 10 May, 1968], No. 56477/68. Heading B5L. In a bench and mitre saw having a motordriven circular saw blade 14 and a different work-receiving surface for each use of the saw to serve as a bench saw plate and as a mitre saw table respectively, the work-receiving surfaces are provided on the opposite sides of a work-plate 2 which can be rotated through 180 degrees about a horizontal axis, and has a circular disc 11 rotatably mounted in it in a circular recess. The saw blade 14 is pivotally mounted on the disc on the side of the workplate which is adapted to serve as a mitre saw table, and is adapted to enter a slot 27, 27a in the work-plate 2 and then to be locked by a locking device in a fixed position. In this position, after the work plate has been rotated to the Figure 3 position, the saw blade projects for the necessary cutting height from the other side of the work-plate. In the machine described the work-plate 2 is pivotable about pins 3 in a frame 1, and the disc 11, Fig. 2, carries a bushing 12 to which is pivoted a saw housing 16 carrying a motor 15 and saw blade 14. The housing 16 is urged upwardly by a spring 18 and is pulled downwardly by means of a handle to cause the blade 14 to form a mitre cut on a workpiece 21 by entering the slot 27 in the disc 11. The angle of the mitre cut is adjusted by rotating the disc 11 relative to a fixed guide bar 8, the saw blade 14 moving with the disc. When it is desired to use the saw for bench sawing, the disc 11 is rotated until the slot 27 therein is aligned with a slot 27a in the work-plate 2. The housing 16 is then pivoted downwardly to cause the blade 14 to project substantially through the slots 27, 27a and is held in this position by an adjustable locking device comprising a bolt 32 inserted into a bearing part 33 on the housing 16. The work-plate is then pivoted through 180 degrees to the position shown in Fig. 3. A combined blade guard and splitting wedge 37 is attached to the housing 16 and guide bars, e.g. 39, are attached to the work-plate. An extension to the work-table may be provided by a plate slidable on guide rods secured to the frame 1.
