[Class 145 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] In a woodworking-machine having a vertical rotary cutter, the table is provided with an opening for the cutter and is mounted upon a pedestal which also supports independently of the table a motor unit consisting of a motor driving the cutter spindle so that vibration is transmitted directly to the pedestal. The machine is further provided with means for adjusting the motor and cutter, with means for adjusting guide fences arranged so as to leave the table clear, an adjustable cutter guard and a guideway in the table for a work supporting crosshead adapted to align the fences with the guideway. The spindle of the cutter 34, Figs. 1 and 3, projects upwards through the opening in the table and is driven through two speed gearing 31 from the spindle of an electric motor 16 which is adjustably mounted on a bracket 15 embracing the pedestal 11. The adjusting and indicating means consist of a screw 19, bevel gearing 20, 21, and handwheel 24 carried by a bracket 23 to which the table 12 also is 'bolted. The fences 45, 46 are supported and adjusted and the adjustments indicated by screw mechanism operated by hand wheels 42 and supported by brackets 57 slidable along a bar 44 secured to the table 12 below its upper surface so as not to obstruct the work. The bracket is clamped in position by a screw 63. The fences are also adjustable angularly about vertical pivots. A guard 38, shown also in Fig. 4, with wood block 40 bearing on the work is carried by an arm with an clastic section 39 on adjustable brackets 42, 43 supported by the bar 44 on the table 12. The cross head 65, Fig. 3, is slidable along the slot 64 in the table and may be used to hold the work and to align the fences 45, 46. An extension 12a to the table may be provided.
