Guards.-A guard for band knives and saws, applicable to machines for cutting cloth, comprises a transparent plate c fixed to a bracket d which is mounted, preferably loosely, on a vertical rod or rack h. To adjust the guard to different thicknesses of the work, the rod h is moved vertically in a fixed bracket j by means of a pinion l and hand-wheel n. The knife a passes through the bracket d. The guard c is transparent to enable the operator to see the guiding marks on the cloth. The bracket j protects the operator's head from sharp edges of the machine frame.
