Abstract

1,031,675. Woodworking. WADKIN Ltd., and F. W. BURROWS. April 16, 1963 [Jan. 10, 1962], No. 1894/62. Heading B5L. A planing or facing machine comprises a long fence 29 against which the work W is guided, and a tool 12 arranged to perform two or more cuts 30, 31 at right angles to each other on the work as it passes through the machine in engagement with the fence. The machine has a main frame 10 supporting a table 11 over which the work is fed to the cutter 12 operating on the under surface of the work, cutters 13, 14 operating on the sides of the work and cutters 15, 16 which trim the upper and lower surfaces of the work, each cutter being driven by a separate motor 22, 23, 23a, 24 and 25, respectively. The work is fed through the machine by feed rolls 17, 18 which are driven by a motor 21 and mounted on a beam 19 vertically adjustable by a handle 20. A vertically adjustable work support 27 extends from the frame 10 and adjustably carries the fence 29. The tool 12 comprises a part 12a which makes a cut 30 on the under surface of the work and a part 12b which cuts a surface 31 on the side face of the work, the surface 31 co-operating with a shallow fence 32 beyond the cutter. The cutter may have a part similar to the part 12b at its other end to cut a surface on the opposite side of the work, that surface also co-operating with a shallow fence, and a third part at its centre for cutting a groove in the under surface of the work, the groove co-operating with a rib on the table 11 to assist guiding of the work.
