Abstract

1,021,161. Cutting girders and like profile bars. AGA-PLATFORADLING A.B. April 8, 1963 [April 12, 1962], No. 13845/63. Heading B3W. [Also in Division B5] An apparatus for severing workpieces having a channelled portion at two opposite edges, comprises two circular saws, one on either side of the feedpath of the workpiece, arranged to swing inwardly into the feedpath and two cooperating shearing cutters placed transversely across the feedpath between the slotting cutters. The machine comprises a frame 1, a table 2 carrying a lower cutter blade 3, and a pivotally mounted yoke 5 which carries an upper cutter blade 4 and is moved downwardly by two double-acting hydraulic cylinders 10 against the action of an hydrualic cylinder 12 which tends to raise the yoke. Two circular saw blades 14 each belt driven by an electric motor are pivotally mounted on pedestals 15 and are moved into the feedpath by cylinders 19 to a position limited by stops 26. Associated with each saw is a hold-down roller 25. The cylinders 19 are connected by pipes 21 to cylinders 22 the piston rods 23 of which are attached to bolts 8 on the yoke 5. Operation.-In cutting work such as a panel radiator blank comprising a pair of steel strips placed on each other and having longitudinal channels at the side thereof, the desired length of strip is fed through the machine and the feed is then interrupted and the cylinders 10 actuated. As the piston rods 23 are pulled down by the bolts 8 oil is forced from the cylinders 22 to the cylinders 19 to swing the pedestals 15 towards each other. At the end of the sawing operation the upper cutter 4 contacts the upper steel strip and coacts with the lower cutter 3 to cut the strip from the centre outwards to within a small distance of the slots. The uncut portions are broken by the shearing pressure exerted on the strips.
