807,530. Planing wood. OLLER, J. M. Jan. 16, 1956 [Jan 21, 1955], No. 1368/56. Class 145. A machine for planing wood or similar materials on all four sides comprises, in order of progress of the material through the machine, a lower horizontal cutter 4, work feed means 11, an upper horizontal cutter 8 and a pair of spaced vertical cutters 9 and 10. The work is supported and guided by a table 1 and a vertical fence 2 both of which are adjustable relative to the cutters, the table 1 being mounted on parallel pivoted bars adjusted by a lever. The feed means is preferably a set of resilientlymounted friction rollers but may comprise a series of narrow toothed wheels or endless chains and they may be driven by belts, chains or shafts. A spring or pressure guide roller is provided between the two vertical cutters and similar rollers may be provided between each planing step to bear against the newly-planed faces. The lower horizontal cutter may be adjusted to vary the depth of cut by a bracket dovetailed into the inclined surface of a block and moved by a lead screw. The tools may be of different cutting qualities according to the requirements of the different surfaces of the workpieces and moulding tools may be fitted. A duct 13 and fan are provided for extracting shavings.
