804,488. Planing wood; grinding. SCHWABEDISSEN, W., and SCHWABEDISSEN, E., [trading as MEYER & SCHWABEDISSEN, F.]. May 29, 1957, No. 16986/57. Classes 60 and 145. A machine for surfacing building board or finishing the edges of laminated wood or for like work comprises cutting tools 4 arranged on a cup-shaped carrier 3 fixed to a hollow rotary shaft 2 and a spring-loaded spindle 6 extending through the hollow shaft 2 carries a plate 7 which may act simply as a holding-down plate or, if provision is made for rotating the spindle 6, may be constructed as a tool carrier or as a grinding disc. The shaft 2 may be driven by belts or gears or it may carry the laminations of the rotor 15 of an electric motor. The spindle 6 is adjustably screwed into a beam 8 adjustably loaded by springs 10. For bevelling the edges of workpieces, the machine is mounted on a spindle at right angles to the tool axis and the workpieces are fed past it by chain feed means. For surfacing, several machines may be carried in two staggered overlapping groups in a frame angularly adjustable on a horizontal spindle and the groups or the individual machines may have relative vertical adjustment. As shown in Fig. 5, the machines may be arranged in a single row and be connected by gears so that tools 4 rotate in synchronized intermeshing fashion.
