Abstract

692,426. Sawing; grinding. BATH & PORTLAND STONE FIRMS, Ltd., and KELLY, G. E. April 10, 1951 (Feb. 6, 1950], No. 3059/50. Classes 60, 124 and 145 (ii). In a rotary cutting and/or grinding machine, a power-driven arbor adapted to carry any desired number of circular tools is mounted on a movable carriage, and is adjustable so that the operating plane may be any one of a range of planes containing the direction of carriage movement. A second and independently powered arbor at right angles to the first may also be fitted. As shown, cutters 13 on an arbor 12 are driven by a motor 9, and the angle which their cutting planes make with the vertical is altered by sliding the knuckle joint 6 up or down the guide 7, when the frame 8 pivots about the knuckle 4, and the depths of their cuts is altered by means of the screwed rod 19 and nut 20. A second set of cutters 17 driven by a motor 14 is slidably mounted under the frame 8, so that this set may be adjusted transversely. The carriage 1 is fitted with wheels driven by a motor 22, and a rotary pump 21 supplies cooling water to the tools.
