[Class 145 (i)] In a wood-working machine comprising in combination a thicknessing machine and a planing machine there is provided a support for the planing machine upon which the latter is movably mounted with respect to the thicknessing machine so that the planing machine can be moved from one position, in which it forms an extension of the thicknessing machine, to another position in which it is held by the support completely clear of the thicknessing machine. The thicknessing machine comprises a table 3 vertically adjustable in guides 2 in the frame 1 by threaded spindles 4 operated by an electric motor 5 or hand wheel 6, table rolls 7, a rotary top head 8 driven directly or through a belt or chain drive 8<a> from an electric motor, pressure bars 9, 10 and pivoted arm feed rolls 13, 14 driven by belt or chain through reduction gearing from the cutter shaft. The planing machine comprises a part 15 carrying a bottom head 16, driving motor 17 and table 19 vertically adjustable by eccentrically mounted shafts 18 operated by a lever 20 moving over a scale 21. The member 15 is pivotally mounted on a column 29, the member 15 being coupled to the thicknessing table 3 by a bar 25 on the member 15 engaging a groove 22 in said table, and by screws 24. When so coupled the table 19 is adjusted vertically simultaneously with adjustment of the table 3 by the spindles 4. To uncouple the parts the table 3 is lowered, the part 15 being then supported by a roller 26 running on a track 27 on the base 28 whereby the planing parts can be swung out of action. A feed roll 32, driven by chain from the roll 13, and pressure members 33 are carried by a part 31 adjustably supported at one end by a member extending from the thicknessing machine and at the other end by an arm 30 pivotally mounted on the column 29 whereby the feed roll 32 can be positioned in front of or behind the cutter 16 or swung out of position altogether.
