Abstract

689,441. Cutting machines. LAWSON CO., Inc., E. P. July 17, 1951. [July 21, 1950] No. 16958/51. Class 31 (i). A machine for cutting paper comprises a cutting table 332, a knife bar 25 operated by driving mechanism, a guide block 312 pivoted on one end of the knife bar and slidable in a guide slot 319 in a support 322, and a connecting member 334 which is disposed between the driving mechanism and the knife bar and is adjustable so as to permit variations in the position of the knife bar relatively to the table and independently of the driving mechanism. The knife bar is connected at one end by a rod 22 to a crank 20 on a shaft 18 driven from a motor 10 ; a second crank 35 on this shaft is connected through a built-up connecting rod 37, lever 44, and arm 27 to a rod 315 pivoted to the opposite end of the knife bar. The guide block 312 is pivoted on a pin 320 carried in an extension 311 of the knife bar, and the guide slot 319 in the support 322 is inclined as shown. The pivot between the connecting rod 315 and knife bar consists of a pin 334 rotatably mounted in the latter and having an eccentric portion engaged by the rod 315. A worm gear 323 rotatably mounted on the knife bar engages a worm wheel 314 formed on the main portion of the pin 334 so as to permit rotation of the pin and corresponding adjustment of the position of the knife bar.
