Abstract
1,072,126. Sewing machines. W. G. LEININGER KNITTING CO. Inc. Aug. 31, 1964 [Sept. 3, 1963], No. 35573/64. Heading DIG. A sewing machine has a thread chain cutting unit comprising a horizontal blade so disposed beyond the stitching point that work is contactingly moved therealong, and means for effecting operation of said unit. A work plate 11 is notched to accommodate a throat plate 7 and is offset intermediately to provide a higher front work-supporting portion 20 and a lower rear portion 22 pivoted to a fired bracket 24. A thread-cutting unit 25, dispersed above portion 22 and substantially co-planer with portion 20, comprises a fixed upper blade 32 and a movable lower blade 36, the blades being respectively formed with complementary teeth 33 and 37 positioned rearwardly of the throat plate 7. A pair of leaf springs 40, 41 are secured by screws 42 to the lower surface of blade 32, a rib 39 on spring 40 engaging a groove 38 in the lower surface of blade 36 to bias the latter against blade 32. A notch 36c in blade 36 is engaged by the front end 26a of a lever 26 pivoted intermediately at 44 to a plate 43 fixed by screws 45 to bracket 24. A cover plate C is fixed by screws S to plate 43 and is coplaner with blade 32. The rear end of plate 43 is formed with a depending boss 46 journalling a pin 49 which is coupled by a shaft 28 to a driving motor and is formed with a circular flange (48) journalled in plate 43. A pin (52), carried eccentrically by flange (48), is embraced by a longitudinal slot formed in the rear end of lever 26. Rotation of shaft 28 thereby results in oscillation of the lower blade 36. A trough-shaped suction nozzle 30, disposed beneath the teeth 33, 37, is formed by cutting away the upper part of the front end of a tube 30a which is supported by a bracket B and is attached at its rear end to a suction hose 31. Suction in nozzle 30 draws the thread chain between the teeth 33, 37 and conveys the severed particles to the hose 31.
